breakfast was berry good!

hi, i’m alex and i love puns.

today’s breakfast was liquid form [no alcohol for a change!!]

  • 1 apple
  • 1 banana
  • 1 pear
  • 3 spoonfuls of frozen summer berries [raspberries, strawberries, redcurrants, blackberries, blueberries and cranberries]

this was delicious! the only downside was the seeds that i got stuck in my teeth. who else has a blend active? i got mine last week and it’s been an absolute star… read somewhere you can blitz vegetables and then transfer to a saucepan and heat up the soup??? not too sure about that one, but for now it’s excellent for shakes, smoothies and juices… if anyone has any recipes please do let me know πŸ™‚ #whatsinyourblender?

so today i had a look in Superdrug at their own brand makeup (called the “B. range”. my aunt, who is a vegetarian herself and has been for… basically forever, recommended their range to me, as they are suitable for vegetarians, vegans and are cruelty free…. they have the leaping bunny logo on all of their products for assurance πŸ˜€

my local store isn’t very big, and didn’t have a lot of stock in.. after speaking to one of the staff, they told me the range was going through rebranding, but I managed to find a few things from their leftovers….

there is a 3for2 offer on at the moment too, so the following items cost me Β£20.03p! that is a bargain — before i went vegan i used MAC, NARS, Charlotte Tilbury… and their foundations alone cost more than the SUperdrug items combined. my old MAC foundation was easily over Β£20 alone!

my finds were the following…

  • B. Even Coverage foundation in ‘Linen’ shade, Β£9.99
  • B. All Mascara – it adds length, volume, definition AND IS WATERPROOF!!, Β£9.99
  • B. Lipstick in ‘Doll’s House’ shade, Β£5.99 [as a huge fan of PLL I couldn’t resist!!]

the photo below is of me [apologies!], but i am wearing the lipstick… as well as looking like trash and rocking my floral pj’s πŸ˜›tumblr_o9wqde1y2v1qcn1apo2_540i haven’t tried the foundation or mascara – i shall post tomorrow with a review, but for now the lipstick is incredible! it’s soft and creamy, is light and the colour is absolutely stunning… i usually go for darker shades of lipstick, my now-old trusty was Spice it Up from MAC, but I gave all of my MAC makeup to my mum [worked out it was over Β£150’s worth!!] so I am yet to find a dupe for it, but for now this change of brand, change of shade has been excellent.

much needed update…

oh my GOD i cannot believe i haven’t posted on here for so long. sorry to any of you who missed me {lbR who is that ????} i have just been so… not busy as in work/uni, but busy just… being busy. apologies.

since being back home every single meal has been vegan. i have been a vegan for about 2 months now and i am loving it so much! my family have been so supportive and my mum has been a star… she’s even been trying my vegan meals.. last night we have lentil bolognese, absolutely no meat and she loved it… more than me i think!

i’ve joined loads of Vegan Facebook groups and everybody i have met have been incredibly welcoming, friendly and supportive.

yesterday in Nantwich was a real treat… went to Blooms Cafe with my mum and my nan and they had a vegan sandwich option (it was hummus, toasted pine nuts, sliced red pepper and carrots with a side salad of rocket, cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinegar… it was delicious!)

hope everyone is doing well and are enjoying the summer…. i’m more of a vampire, i hate the summer and the sun and prefer to spend my summer [and every other day of the year to be honest] indoors, but enjoy it whichever you prefer ❀

the vegan has moved back home

i moved back home from university yesterday, for a few months before i move into my house before second year, and i went to the supermarket with my mum today and we stocked up on loads of meat and dairy free foods πŸ™‚ below is today’s shop, i’m going to town tomorrow with my nan where no doubt more will be purchased πŸ™‚

i’m so happy i’m home now, not only do i now have my own beautiful double bed back which is like sleeping on a cloud after months of what can only be described as a mattress made from broken bricks, WORKING INTERNET, a shower that doesn’t just drip once every few seconds… now i can finally buy, prepare & cook my own meals. i can choose what i want, how i make things, what ingredients i use…

let the vegan living at home experience begin! πŸ™‚

Tim Lovejoy’s Kung Fu Tuna Recipe

i was watching Sunday Brunch this morning and this was a talked about recipe… i can see why. it looks gorgeous, i’m definitely going to try this when i get the chance.. although for me i’d have to have the tuna cooked a bit more… if any of you try it out let me know. happy sunday!

Ingredients
500g Tuna loin

For the marinade
2 x cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 ginger, grated
2 tbsp oil
100ml soy sauce
2 tbsp fish sauce
2 tbsp rice vinegar
Juice 1 lime
2 tbsp honey
For the vegetables
1 fennel
1/2 cucumber
1 large carrot
3 x spring onions
1 red pepper
1 tbsp sesame seeds

To serve
200g broad rice noodles
Vegetable oil for deep frying
1 chilli sliced
2 x spring onions, sliced

Method
1. Mix together all the marinade ingredients and then place the tuna in the marinade for 1-2 hours.
2. Chop the vegetables into strips.
3. Remove the tuna from the marinade and then seal in a hot pan on all sides before taking out to rest.
4. Place 1 tbsp of oil in the pan and fry off the vegetables. Pour a few tbsp of the marinade over to coat then add the sesame seeds.
5. Deep fry the rice noodles until puffed and serve with the veg and tuna with the chilli and spring onions to garnish.

i’m so happy about this! i love bailey’s, it’s my favourite thing to drink at christmas, and i was sad when i stopped having dairy because of my love for the drink, but now they have this delicious looking alternative and i cannot wait to try it out! christmas has just come a few months early, ho ho ho!

it’s national vegetarian week πŸŽπŸŠπŸπŸŒπŸ‡πŸ“πŸŒ½πŸŒ±
i’ve only been vegetarian/vegan for about 2 weeks now but already i feel so much better for it πŸ™‚ i am contemplating going pescatarian just for protein in my diet, but i don’t like the idea of eating fish so i’m still trying to decide on that one… thoughts/advice?
sorry i haven’t posted lately, i’ve had a busy few days, plus i broke my phone so had to send it for repair, and the phone i have in the meantime doesn’t have any social media or even a camera, it barely texts and calls haha!
been to the gym twice this week, going again tomorrow.. my cardio fitness levels are improving slightly, focusing more on my arms and abs tomorrow πŸ™‚

the gym was fun once again today πŸ™‚ felt the burn on my arms more this time, i focused more on them, they need toning up like SERIOUSLY. here’s a photo of me and the wife (melissa) after our session (after makeup had been applied) πŸ˜‰

we went shopping after the gym and for some lunch – we went to yo! sushi. i was SO tempted to get the crispy salmon skin, but i kept my vegan head on and had miso soup, cucumber maki and the sushi salad thingy? can never remember the name. and thanks to us both being students we got 25% off which was a bonus πŸ˜€

hope you all have a good weekend! for me, my nan and granddad are coming down to visit tomorrow, and i’m going to meet them, but beforehand i’m going for breakfast and a stroll Β around my beautiful city [London]. see you all soon πŸ™‚

all coffee no chicken

moving into our first proper house mid July, and me and the other three girls (who I’m moving in with: Eloise, Elouisa & Rachel) went to the bank today to set a joint account up, and we went for a Starbucks afterwards. it was lovely, and I had my first ever soy latte and i can honestly say i couldn’t tell the difference from a dairy one???

we all got hungry around noon, and everyone wanted to go to KFC.. it was hard, because I LOVE(D) CHICKEN, but i still managed to keep it vegan: i had a hash brown burger with no cheese/mayo, just lettuce. had fries too, but today was my ‘cheat day’, so…
